We got to know the very smiley Hello Sunshine and her lasercut jewellery over on our Monday Maker feature but did you know she also does custom doodles? We got to know a little bit more about her design process when working on a custom illustration.
Where do you work and does your location influence your work?
When it comes to me and my sketchbook there is nowhere better to doodle than in the sunshine, whether it’s in my back garden or on holiday. I love being outside and it’s always a bonus at home when I have ‘help’…
What is inspires your illustrations?
Where my Sunshine doodles are concerned a lot of the inspiration comes from the lovely people that commission me to create pictures of their friends, families and pets. It’s my favourite part of the process, bringing people to life as a cartoon but also including so many personal aspects of their life.
As well as my lovely customers inspiring me, I do have a mini personal project on the go right now which is inspired mainly by my childhood and love of cartoons! I’m hoping to be able to create doodles that will be available to everyone to buy whenever they want a piece of sunshine, not just as a commission.
Do you have any new designs you can give us a sneak preview of?
Although I am often sworn to secrecy with my commissioned sunshines I can share a couple of my favourite recent Pet doodles with you! I have only recently started drawing just pets for people and I LOVE IT!
I can also give you a teeny peek of my mini personal project too… Maybe you’ll be able to guess which cartoons I spent a lot of my childhood watching (and adulthood to be fair!)

Sam Pierpoint regularly does commissions for a whole range of clients. She has recently finished this Paper London commission and wanted to share it all with you which I’m not surprised about, It really is stunning!
“I’m really excited to finally be able to share this project after lots of hard work!
I decided to create a large 3D paper sculpture as a bit of an experimental original art project. I’ve really wanted to start focusing more on the post production side of things so I handed the piece over to my partner Michael Foyle who photographed and finished the final image using light compositing techniques. 50 odd photoshop layers and several hours of hard work later, the final image is now finished and I’m SO happy with the results. I can’t wait to do more work like this! Hope you like it!”
