Katie StainerKatie is a Nottingham based designer maker specialising in unique origami jewellery and sculpture created using recycled and reclaimed books. Lovely CuppaA love of tea, among other things, inspires the fantastic stationary designs of Lovely Cuppa. Lovely Cuppa believes the essence of handmade is trying to produce polished looking designs from a reasonably primative setup, each one being that little bit different from the last, so you can guarantee they are completely unique. Sharing the limelight today are Sam Pierpoint, Deborah Ballinger and Upsydaisy Craft. Sam PierpointSam Pierpoint's fun and whimsical illustrations are inspired by Mother Nature, wildlife and travel. Sam's work often contains fusions of architectural, geometric, cultural and natural patterns to create vibrant and rich pieces. Sam handcraft's marvellous 3D creations out of a range of fine quality papers, before photographing and editing the images digitally, to create each finished piece. Deborah BallingerInspired by history, culture, flora and fauna and traditions, Deborah uses these themes and more to create beautifully dark, natural and traditional illustrations. Striving to keep many traditional and handmade elements within her work, Deborah uses the process of collage to begin breathing life into her pencil drawings before translating these onto textiles, stationery, gift-ware and printed matter. Upsydaisy CraftIn a shed at the bottom of her garden gifted ceramist Upsydaisy Craft drinks tea, doodles and creates lovely tiles, pots and jewellery. Farah BatoolInspired by her walks in the Peak District, Nottingham based artist, Farah Batool creates delicate yet intricate ceramic pieces, predominately focusing on bird motifs. Oh DaisyOh Daisy is a Nottingham based jewellery label run by husband and wife team - Lucy Jamieson and Alan Jamieson. Inspired by vintage ephemera, typography and the quirky side of nature Oh Daisy aim to create affordable designs that make the wearer smile. BluebirdBluebird makes cute and quirky handmade and painted textiles.
Bluebirds comfy cushions and hanging hearts are backed with vintage fabric to give each piece an extra air of individuality. Molly's MumMolly's Mum creates individual and unique textiles by combining a love of vintage/retro fabrics and quirky haberdashery embellished with free machine embroidery. Each inspired by the fun and simplicity of my children's doodles. From Kindle cozies to scarves, brooches to house shaped cushions Molly's Mum creates an eclectic range of home wares, accessories and gifts. ZalisanderLex Watt of Zalisander Contemporary Jewellery takes inspiration from everything around her but is particularly interested in the visual aspects of growth, encrustation and the reclaiming of man made structures by nature. Her work revolves around surface texture, which she then accents with natural gemstones from reliable sources. With her designs, Lex seeks to invoke the sense of wonder she felt as a child when reading stories of fairy-tale treasure. Newton and the AppleNewton and the Apple plunder the wonderful worlds of nature and science to create a gorgeous bunch of handcrafted accessories for you and your home. Working from a small studio in Nottingham Newton and the apple use their background in auditory neuroscience and graphic design to create items that are fun, unique, and just a little bit special. Katie AbeyKatie Abey is an accomplished illustrator whose work adorns greeting cards, badges, pocket mirrors, prints, beanies, magnets and postcards. She is inspired by anything weird and wonderful and aims to put happiness and humour into her illustrations. Her simple and distinctive illustration style combines a mixture of attitude and sweetness to create statements that anybody can relate to. Here at Handmade Nottingham we are dedicated to promoting and showcasing local creative talent. Our pop up shop is brimming with enchanting textiles, jewellery, prints and homes accessories from 30 designers, makers and vintage sellers. With Christmas around the corner we thought we'd shine the spotlight on Nottingham's great creatives, and hopefully give you some marvelous gift ideas for the ones you love, in this, the season of good will. Our first two creatives to share the limelight are Rhea Clements and Hannah Stevens. Rhea ClementsRhea Clements specialises in creating design led innovative knitwear. Made from 100% cotton and Merino Wool, traditional techniques are used to create a contemporary look. Function drives the design of each item, creating an easy to use and functional product. Each piece is handmade in her studio in Nottingham, using a hand powered knitting machine, and then finished by hand creating a high quality product. We have been so busy with the pop up and shop and helping host Bird in Borrowed Feathers Market that we haven't had a chance to do a blog post about either. So... grab a cuppa, a couple of biscuits and prepare yourself for a bumper blog as we attempt to catch you up!! Handmade Nottingham Pop Up ShopAfter a great deal of preparation the Handmade Nottingham pop up shop opened on November 1st at the recently refurbished Malt Cross. As the proud purveyors of exquisite; local and handmade products our shop features the work of 30 designers, makers and vintage sellers from across the county! The shop space is beautiful, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has ever had the pleasure of visiting the gorgeous former music hall. We are overjoyed to be part of a new chapter in the Malt Cross's history, but alas, as a pop up shop, we will not be there forever so be sure to pop in and shop local and handmade this Christmas!! Bird in Borrowed Feathers Winter MarketOn November 22nd - 23rd we hosted our second craft market with The Bird in Borrowed Feathers Winter Market, at the magnificent, recently renovated Cobden Place. We had a fantastic, festive time with over 40 local designers, makers, vintage sellers and a brilliant baker showcasing an eclectic range of handmade goodies.
